Dental Crowns The Woodlands, TX

Dental crowns are tooth-colored restorations that act like caps that cover and protect teeth. Crowns can strengthen worn or weakened teeth, cover tooth damage, support dental bridges, cover dental implants, and protect teeth following root canals. At Majestic Dental, Dr. Yazan Sadeddin can create dental crowns in The Woodlands to match your teeth’s shape, size, and color.

Benefits of and Uses for Porcelain Dental Crowns

At Majestic Dental, we offer dental crowns for patients to:

  • Protect worn or weakened teeth following root canals
  • Hold a dental bridge
  • Cover single dental implants
  • Restore broken and damaged teeth

Dental crowns may be made of many materials, including stainless steel, gold, amalgamated metal, ceramic, acrylic, and porcelain. Compared to gold or amalgamated metals, porcelain provides a more natural look. While patients typically receive metal crowns for their back molars, the metal is still apparent when patients eat or open their mouths. Porcelain blends with natural tooth enamel and provides sufficient durability to stand natural biting and chewing forces. Additionally, porcelain crowns are stain-resistant, do not require special maintenance, and look and feel natural.

Dental Crown Treatment in The Woodlands, TX

Receiving a dental crown can take two appointments in our office. Dr. Sadeddin will prepare your tooth or teeth for the crowns at the first visit. Preparing the tooth ensures that the crown fits precisely. Dr. Sadeddin takes a conservative approach to care, removing a minimal amount from the enamel to ensure the crown comfortably fits over the tooth.

He will also take a digital impression and color-match the treated tooth to the shade of surrounding natural teeth, sending these specifications to a dental lab. Dr. Sadeddin will provide a temporary crown while the final crown is fabricated. Once the final crown is complete, Dr. Sadeddin will remove the temporary crown. Finally, he will cement the permanent crown to the tooth.

Once a permanent crown is in place, you can bite and chew as you would with your natural teeth. You can eat without restrictions once you’re accustomed to your new tooth crowns. On average, crowns can last fifteen years. Gently brushing the crowns and flossing between your crowns will ensure that they stay stable, bright, and healthy.

What Are Dental Inlays and Onlays?

Also known as partial crowns, inlays and onlays are similar to dental crowns but cover different areas of the tooth. Dental onlays are indirect porcelain restorations required when teeth are too damaged for regular fillings but not damaged enough for a crown. Onlays are placed on the top of the tooth, covering the chewing surface and cusps. Inlays cover a smaller portion of the tooth, within the cusps or sides of the tooth and on the chewing surface. It typically takes two appointments to receive inlays and onlays. Like crowns, inlays, and onlays are separate pieces bonded to damaged areas of a tooth.
