What Are Dental Veneers?

Patient's smile before and after veneers.

In short, veneers are thin shells of high-quality dental materials, like porcelain. Once they are bonded onto the front-facing surface of the teeth, they can conceal several common aesthetic problems, including tooth stains, gaps between teeth, and misshapen teeth. Plus, the entire process often only requires two or three visits to our office!

The Process of Getting Veneers

The veneers treatment process begins with a consultation, which is when Dr. Sadeddin will examine your teeth to determine if dental veneers suit your needs. If the answer is “yes,” then he will prepare the teeth for the veneers. From there, he will take impressions to fabricate the veneers, which will be sent to the dental lab, where a ceramicist creates the veneers.

Once the veneers are ready, you’ll come to our office for your “final” appointment. During this visit, Dr. Sadeddin will remove your temporary veneers, clean your natural tooth, and apply bonding cement to the treated teeth to apply the veneers. When he is done, you’ll have the symmetrical, bright, and gorgeous smile that you’ve been dreaming of!

Veneers FAQs

How do you clean veneers?

The best way to clean dental veneers is to use a toothbrush and toothpaste. Gently brushing your veneers as you would your natural teeth can remove food debris and surface stains. Flossing can remove bacterial buildup between teeth and prevent problems like gum disease, which can still pose an issue for patients with dental veneers.

How long do veneers last?

Veneers are a reliable cosmetic treatment. Porcelain veneers specifically last longer than other types of veneers because of their durability. In fact, with proper care, porcelain veneers can last over fifteen years.

How many veneers can I receive?

We can provide as many veneers as it takes to cover all of the teeth in your smile line, meaning the teeth that show when you smile. Four to eight veneers are common, but ten veneers can cover all the teeth in the “smile zone.”

Do veneers look natural?

Materials, tooth preparation, and color-matching ensure that veneers look natural. Our dental veneers are made from porcelain ceramic materials, which we match to other natural teeth in the smile line or other veneers that cover all the teeth in the smile line. Tooth preparation also ensures the veneers do not look or feel bulky. Removing a minimal amount of tooth enamel ensures that the thickness of the veneers matches closely with natural teeth.
